Production - The Draft of the Opening Sequence

Editing

After we ran through the whole opening sequence we decided to add our Ident. This will then inform the audience as well as help identity the genre, we added a night camp sound effect to create tension and also back up the identification of a horror genre, the sound effect also bleeds into the first few establishing shots, to help enhance the establishment of the sequence. We then decided that the colour white was too bold for a background and therefore decided to darken the Ident therefore visually creating colour codes for the horror genre.

Overall we thought this was a good idea as it would help identify to the audience that this is purely are production and helps cover any copyrights. We see it as a signature to our work help confirming that is sequence is ours and ours truly.

Production - The Editing Process

Editing the Opening Sequence

When first started editing we decided to first structure our sequence in the correct order so that we wold have the "skeleton" of our sequence to build upon. So we import all of our footage and then decided to correct the position of sound and the clips. We structure our sequence by running if thug our animatic, giving us an idea of the timing of each sequence and the shots. This proved successful has shown in the image below.

Using Final Cut Pro's timer help show the length of our clip to show that we were giving our clips the right amount of timing. once they were in placed we looked at the sound of the piece and made sure that when we cut the shots the sound would move smoothly as the visual. This was done by separating the sound from the clip and then moving to a position were it alined the movement of an actors mouth or the background sound. For example when we cut part of a clip the background noise didn't match as a bird was cut mid chirp therefore we over came this issue by moving the sound so the next shot would overlap some of the sound. Overall making the sequences move immersive and continuous.

We then moved onto the lighting as we had an issue we darkness within some of the shots due to being in a wooded area. We used colour balance and adjustment within Final Cut to help clearly define the actors face and give the scene more clarity. Thus then stopping minimal distraction which could put off the audience when watch the opening sequence. Here is Megan and Myself work on those adjustments.

As you can see we adjusted the colour and saturation so that we could clearly see Betty within shot.

We then decided to develop a low saturation to the whole sequence to give a familiar sense to the audience as this is a convention often used within Horror. for this we change the exposure of the footage so that it would darken the scene therefore giving it a darkened hue. This gave a isolated dark scene for the actors to be in therefore suggesting danger or giving the atmosphere of upset and depression. This is a screen shot of Megan and Myself changing the exposure.

Overall we feel are sequence has came very far in the process but it still needs to be refined. We are going to show the draft cut to are focus group to see how we can improve on editing and the sequence overall.

Production - Our Ident

 Our Ident

Here is Mine and Megan's ident which we produced in the lesson, this is our first idea and we feel it went really well. However we would like to crop the image so we do not have the black bar running along the side. Overall I feel it really fits the genre which we are doing, as well as represents how we are two individuals who have come together to produce this. This is show by how the letter C and B come from two direction but join as one. The genre is also reflected through the colour. Our next step will be to add music suitable for the visual.

Production - Filming

Filming
On Wednesday 25th February the filming crew (Megan and Myself) went to Weston woods to film with the actors (Betty, Harry and Katie) Here we have some photos during the production.
Here are the actors Katie and Harry preparing for their next scene.
Here we have Betty and Myself running through the script and conversing about the stage directions within this scene.
Here is Myself during a filming of Betty's Close up shot.
Overall the filming went really well, we covered all of the scene and the actors fit there role. We had no issues with the camera and setting. The only issue we did have was lighting, it got to a point where it was to dark to film, we over came this problem by using various flashlight to light the scene.

Production - Animatic

The Animatic

Here I have produced an animatic to help clarafy the timings of each shot and whether it fits within the two minutes of the opening sequence. It also shows which scene take up the most time therefore suggesting that they are the key scenes within our sequence.

We used the storyboard as the images and the time slots they were each given. In conclusion the sequence came to exactly 2:00 minutes and we now have a clear view on how much time should be spent on each scene.
